PC/ABS provides a synergic balance of processability and toughness, with the high heat distortion temperature of the polycarbonates
- ABS rubber content > impact properties increase
- PC/ABS ratio > thermal properties increase
The goal is to add more rubber content into the dominate PC phase.
Core-Shell Structure:
- Butadiene rubber core (Tg= -80 degrees Celsius) for impact performance
- SAN-GMA copolymer shell for compatibility with PC
Styrene-AcryoNitrile-Glycidyl MethAcrylate shell: the GMA (epoxy) groups can react with the polycarbonate end-groups, resulting in an effective dispersion of the rubber into the PC phase, thus optimal impact performance.
Impact Strength in 70/30 PC/ABS:
Fine-Blend SBG-001 can gently stabilize the morphology of the polymer blend, thus resulting in:
- Toughening efficiency (better than conventional MBS impact modifiers)
- Improve heat stability and hydrolytic resistance
- Less surface defects
A 3% of SBG-001 is also effective in upgrading the impact properties of recycled PC/ABS
