Fine-Blend SAG Compatibilizers

SAG is a novel family of styrene-acrylonitrile-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymers with different content of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). We offer SAG-001, SAG-002, SAG-005, and SAG-008, the higher the number, the higher the reactivity of the compatibilizer. 

These SAG compatibilizers are manufactured by our partner, Fine-Blend, and are exclusively distributed in the United States through SACO AEI Polymers Distribution. 

How Can SAG Compatibilizers be Used?

Fine-Blend’s SAG can be used to effectively compatibilized a variety of polycarbonate, polyester, and styrenic-based polymer blends (e.g. PC/ABS, ABS/PET, ABS/PBT, ASA/PBT, etc.)

A compatibilizer is expected to: 

• Improve dispersion and morphology of the blend.
• Build a stronger polymer-polymer interface.
• Stabilize the blend.
• Improve properties statistically:
  •     Mean values increase
  •     Standard deviations decrease
• Provide consistent response to external factors.

How Do SAG Compatibilizers Work?

In processing conditions, the GMA (epoxy) groups of SAG are very reactive to the end-groups of polycarbonate, polyesters, and other condensation polymers. 

As an effect of the chemical reaction, a strong polymer-polymer interface is formed, and the blend stabilizes. 

Fine-Blend SAG Compatibilizers:

• Provide phase/process stability.
• Control degradation from heat, shear, hydrolysis, and alkaline/acid conditions, which often result in surface defects. 
• Improve the quality of the parts.
